The benefit of having a pet for Human Health

The zest and energy that they possess is contagious and will keep you intact for the long run. On the other hand, our feline friends are serious snoozers! Some studies claim that taking a power nap in the afternoon is a powerhouse to boost your mental and cognitive abilities.

There are many positive impacts of owning a pet in on one’s life and health. Dogs and cats, the most commonly found pets, are scientifically proven to alleviate stress levels. Recent studies have shown that being around a dog or a cat and spending time with them is believed to reduce cardiovascular diseases in humans. That means a pet owner is less likely to suffer a heart stroke or a cardiac arrest by 40%. With a dog in the family you’re almost certain to adapt to a more active lifestyle.  The zest and energy that they possess is contagious and will keep you intact for the long run. On the other hand, our feline friends are serious snoozers! Some studies claim that taking a power nap in the afternoon is a powerhouse to boost your mental and cognitive abilities. Curling up to your little ball of fur in the afternoons is a great way to revitalize your inner strength. Having said that, we at PetKonnect believe that the sparkle in their cute faces is enough to melt your days stress away.

As weird as it may sound, dogs can detect seizures and cancers too. It is their sense of smell that helps them detect seizures before they happen as well as certain types of cancers such as colon cancer and prostate cancer to name a few. Funnily enough, pets have a great impact on your dating life too!

In my personal experience, my family is a typical business, nuclear family residing in Mumbai. Everyone has always been busy in their own schedules - work, studies, household chores and everything routine. Due to the increasing levels of stress in daily life, along with all its struggles, my parents had both developed severe stress related diseases like blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes and certain heart related ailments. Along with medicines, all the doctors that we consulted suggested reducing the day to day stress levels and indulging in regular physical and mental exercises. Around that time, we decided to get Hazel (our first ever pet) home. Though initially we struggled with learning how to raise a pet, she grew to be an integral part of our family. I am sure every reader who is, or has ever been a pet parent will certainly relate to this. Everyone started looking forward to getting home from our respective work, study places only so we could come home to her. Dinner times, that used to be filled with talks of the daily unpleasant events, changed to heart filled laughter sessions and play dates with Hazel, with her becoming the most loved and pampered member of the family.

While we thought this couldn't have any deeper impact than changing how our day ends, we started to notice that the reports of both my parents started getting better over time, within months of Hazel coming to our house. We grew happier and closer as a family, and healthier as individuals.
