Key Trends Associated With The IVF Industry

There are many proven facts that suggest that modifiable lifestyle factors play important roles in the general health and wellbeing of individuals including fertility.

The everyday advancements in reproductive technologies have resulted in better understanding of human fertilization and embryo development. With it’s significantly increasing success rate, the industry has managed to pierce through the society and has now been talked about and considered at a much larger scale. The fertility industry is ushering new standards in the entire spectrum of reproductive health care.

However, the success rate of the treatment does not only depend on the ever evolving advancement marks that the sector is making but your personal life choices as well. There are many proven facts that suggest that modifiable lifestyle factors play important roles in the general health and  wellbeing of individuals including fertility. Inclusion of simple lifestyle changes can make a whole lot of difference in your health and help improve your chances of conception to many folds. If you're an intended couple who is trying to conceive, your overall goal should be to create the healthiest environment for conception and pregnancy.

The rising popularity of the assisted reproductive techniques is also because of rising prevalence of causes like advanced parental age, premature ovarian failure, male infertility, blocked tubes, unhealthy lifestyle (including physical, mental, and environmental health) and others in India. On account of such causes, a large number of couples are opting for trends that can help them preserve their fertility for much longer.

Getting more involved and active

Staying physically fit and eating healthy nutrition is a new trend in every field. Regular exercise not only benefits your health, but increases fertility as well. Increasing moderate physical activity has positive effects on fertility for women and men, both. However, you should listen to your body and know when to stop and consultation from your doctor on exercise that suits you best is mandatory. To have an active lifestyle will increase the success percentage of implantation as well.

Egg freezing

As the term says itself, it’s a process of freezing the eggs to save women's ability to get pregnant in the future whenever she is ready. It is also known as elective egg freezing and is one of the easily approachable and affordable processes. However, the best time to freeze the eggs is before 35 years of age as the number and quality of eggs drastically declines after 35. With the development and advancement in egg freezing techniques it is no longer in an experimental stage. According to current data of Ferticity Fertility clinic, has the survival rate of frozen oocytes 95 per cent, fertilization rate is 85.3 percent and pregnancy rate is 68.75 percent. Today it’s a well established, innovative practice with good pregnancy outcomes and its use has been extended to fertility preservation and social freezing.

Embryo cryopreservation

After the fertilization is done in the laboratory, there can be more embryos created than can reasonably be transferred to the woman’s uterus. If these “surplus” embryos are of good quality, then they can be cryopreserved (frozen) so they may be transferred at some future date. The embryos can be cryopreserved at any stage between day 1 and day 7 after egg retrieval. The process can be done in two ways: Slow freezing and Vitrification.

However, as compared with slow freezing, vitrification increases an embryo’s chance of survival, both at the freezing stage and during thawing.

The embryo cryopreservation has a relatively high success rate, and research suggests that women who undergo frozen embryo cycle using thawed embryos have better pregnancy outcomes. Such frozen-thawed embryo transfers also allow elective single embryo transfer (e-SET) which provides a greater chance of a healthy pregnancy and live birth without compromising maternal health. Another study has also suggested that babies born after cryopreservation showed no increase in developmental abnormalities but the medical community still has to walk long miles to require more long-term follow-up studies.

Normalizing taking time to relax

When you are trying to conceive, stress is probably on the menu, too. With increasing stress, your chances of getting pregnant decreases. It is likely due to the hormonal changes that occur when you feel stressed. But the positive news is that by decreasing stress, couples can experience higher fertility potential as well as healthier and happier well-being.

Remember that receiving support and counseling is perfectly fine as reduced anxiety and depression levels will increase your chances of becoming pregnant. And don’t forget to take some time for yourself.
