In conversation with Shekhar Rawtani, CEO & Founder of Prescrip

With the smart prescription feature doctors can create prescriptions in a few steps without having to write the same drugs repeatedly and have automated generic names of the drugs mentioned along with the brand names.

How can doctors benefit from using Prescrip?

Prescrip is an all-in-one platform for healthcare professionals that simplifies and enables e-prescriptions, appointments, online consultations, analytics of patient data, and discovery of practice.  We have created our solution, keeping the needs of the doctors at the centre. Doctors can use our private digital clinic feature to easily consult with their patients via video/audio, this feature offers them complete privacy and security by allowing them to use any platform of their choice. It also enables them to collect online payments before the consultation takes place.

With the smart prescription feature doctors can create prescriptions in a few steps without having to write the same drugs repeatedly and have automated generic names of the drugs mentioned along with the brand names. The ability to maintain old records be it prescriptions, investigations or findings enables them to access all old data at the touch of a button and track patient recovery. The ability to send personalized medicine reminders empowers doctors to achieve better therapy compliance resulting in improved therapy outcomes.

How many users are currently registered on the platform?

The platform has seen an influx of 6,623 users in 2020 itself and it has reached 10000+ users till date. Our users are from various specialties across 477 cities in India.

What is the primary reason behind the growth of Prescrip?

The company’s growth trajectory is fuelled by the initiatives of the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) and the new Telemedicine and Telehealth Guidelines issued by the Indian Government.  But once the solution reaches a doctor it is the solution’s simplicity and ease of use that results in loyal users who refer it to their peers. Most of our users come by referral & that just speaks volumes about the user friendliness of the solution and satisfied users, who are delighted by not just the product but also by the kind of support our team provides to ensure the journey of taking their practice digital is smooth.

When did you launch Prescrip? What was the inspiration behind the idea of Prescrip?

At the core, Prescrip is a solution to increase adoption of technology in healthcare. It was launched in 2014. The main inspiration came from looking at the way our healthcare delivery system functioned, even with the technology available its usage was very low. The reason behind that was the end user always found the solutions to be extremely complex and time consuming, that’s when the idea to create a simple solution that just seamlessly fits and adapts to any doctor’s practice took birth.

What are the unique features of the solution and which features are most loved by your users?

The physicians love our platform because it allows them to be constantly in touch with their patients, since they can carry the entire clinical database in their pocket so it can be accessed at any time & anyplace. The fact they can get a private clinic experience digitally attracts them and they love the simplicity of the product.  But the personalised SMS reminders for medicine and appointments are the most loved feature. Our team takes feedback from doctors regularly and incorporates them into the app so that the doctors have a smooth and superior user experience.

A short description and background of the Prescrip team.

The Prescrip team is led by Shekhar Rawtani and Tanay Surkund, who popularized and increased the solution’s availability all over India. Shekhar Rawtani is a Bachelor of Pharmacy and studied law from Mumbai university. He has 12+ Years of diverse experience in Business Development, Healthcare IT, Customer Service, & Event/Association Management. Tanay Surkund has over 9 years of experience in healthcare across the US & India, ranging from hospital administration, Healthcare IT & consulting & medical devices. He has completed his Bachelors in Pharmacy from Mumbai University & his Masters in Health Administration from Washington State University.

What are the challenges you have faced so far? How did you overcome them?

Changing a lifelong habit is always a challenge, so getting a doctor to put aside their pen and paper and go digital was always going to be tough. Coupled with this was the fact that after looking at multiple complex solutions most of the doctors were very apprehensive in trying any new technology solution in their medical practice.

Prescrip addressed these challenges by providing the best in industry customer service as well as adding value-added features that enabled doctors to increase their productivity in the practice. We requested the doctors to use our solution and make the payment only after they were satisfied with its simplicity and benefits. We supported users through any initial coping challenges they faced until they could utilize solution in their practice with confidence and propriety.

What are your future plans and vision for Prescrip?

Our team’s internal aspiration is to onboard 300,000 doctors in 3 years. We want to find a suitable strategic partner who can take our platform scaling new heights so that we become the preferred choice for every doctor, clinic, hospital that strives to deliver quality healthcare in India. We are soon launching a new smart live queuing feature on our platform which will benefit both doctors and patients. The new feature addresses one of the most common concerns of patients who dislike waiting at the clinic or hospital for long hours. With live queuing, the patient will know when to leave their house to reach the clinic ensuring their time is saved and maintain social distancing. But we don’t want to stop there, we aspire to bring new solutions that align with the changing needs of doctors, patients with a consistent focus on improving technology.
