How To Build Mental Strength, The Key To Wellbeing
At the ‘Festival of Well-being’ conference and 40 under 40 awards of BW Wellbeing World Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore spoke about mental strength and focus.
MP and Former Cabinet Minister, Olympic Medalist, Former Shooting Athlete and Retd. Indian Army Officer, Col. Rathore when asked about how he makes sure that he maintains focus during the pressure when he is shooting, replied saying, “There has to be a good balance between mind, body, muscle and the soul. All 4 of them come together and remain in sync with the target, so you become one with the target which is flying, so you become one so that you can hit it.”
He went on to congratulate the BW Businessworld team and mention that the event gave the wellness industry the reason to be in the news, and congratulated all the people in the wellbeing industry, all those who nominated for this platform. He feels they are in the right industry as the wellbeing industry is on a taking off stage now and for the next decade or two, wellbeing will be right on the top.
He also mentioned that, “I personally believe in wellbeing and I try despite the fact that I am in public service, when I stand in front of the mirror, I remember I am a soldier, I’m a sportsman, and must look like one. I try and maintain that. I have learnt a lot in the Armed Forces and right from the age of 16 years after Class 11 I was in the Armed Forces and I learnt a lot from them. Wellness, mental fitness and everything I have learnt from them and everything I have done in life has come from my learnings in the Armed Forces and wellness is something very important in the Armed Forces. Starting from morning physical training, come evening it is sports which is mandatory except on Sundays. So you can understand how important wellbeing is to a soldier who is constantly under pressure.”
About Col. Rathore, Dr. Annurag Batra said, “He does a lot of social work in his constituency and continues to stay humble. I think staying grounded comes from being in the army.”
Col. Rathore said that what he has done in and for sports and the youth in his constituency was as following - There was a scheme where with 12 crores one could create one stadium. He wasn’t the minister at that time and he went to the sports minister and he said, “Can I split this into multiple stadiums? The sports minister said that he has never heard of that as everyone wants to create one stadium. I said my constituency is 260 kms long so what is the point of making one stadium. I have and I added some more money into it and have 17 mini stadiums in my constituency out of that money. There were young boys who told him they want heavy weights and I told them I will get you heavy weights. I got some CSR around 10 crores and I created 17 Olympic gyms is what I call them, and in rural areas a hall half the size of this with weights and battle ropes etc. and you can see girls working out there. That is the change in the rural India.”
His constituency is Jaipur Rural, which he leads and nurtures.
